3 Simple Steps To Clean a Face Shield ?

From front line workers to celebrities to makeup - artists to basically anyone who knows that they’ll be in sustained close contact with others - Face shields are for one and all.

The correct way of using a Face Shield -

The new essentials, Face shields are made up of a plastic or Plexiglas panel and an elastic band or adjustable strap that holds the panel in place.

Fairly easy to use, the right face shield -

  1. Will have panels that extend well past the chin and curve around the sides of your face
  2. Won't leave any gaps between the forehead and the shield’s headpiece

For how long can I use a face shield?

Face shields are reasonably priced. You can either buy disposable face shields in bulk or go for a non-disposable face shield and use it as long as it’s not warped, damaged or cracked.

What’s the best way to clean a face shield at home?

“We know this virus likes to live on plastic a lot better than it likes to live on porous materials like cloth, paper or cardboard,” says pediatric infectious disease specialist Frank Esper, MD.

So if you have decided to buy a non disposable face shield, make sure you wear it with a mask and clean it after every use for max protection.

  1. Submerge the glass/protective panel in warm soapy water. This will get the contaminants off the shield.
  2. Gently clean the surface with a soft sponge or cotton cloth.
  3. Now rinse the shield with clean water and wipe with a cotton or micro-fiber cloth.

Voila ! Your face shield is clean and ready for the next use.

Important points to remember -

  • You can clean the headpiece separately
  • Don't be tempted to use a window or house cleaner or an alcohol based wipe on your face shield. They can potentially damage the glass.
